Artist Statement:
My goal as an artist is to educate people about the aesthetic possibilities of recycled materials and to draw attention to nature’s inherent beauty. To achieve this, I incorporate into my art, everyday household objects, found objects, and waste materials. Though the materials I use are constantly changing, the following are a sample of some of the materials I have used in the past: Found paper objects, paper cup bottoms, scraps of cardboard, shoelaces, bits of string, toilet paper rolls, and a host of other waste materials. These materials are altered with paint, dyes, and a host of other products and then combined using assemblage, collage, and environmental art into intricate and ornate pieces which resemble organic structures. This new style of art I hope will inspire others to experiment further with new styles and materials which create beauty out of waste materials.
Besides working alongside of nature to create beautiful pieces of art out of what would otherwise be thrown out objects, I also paint strange creatures on found scraps of paper and on canvas. These creatures are representations of inner psychological states.
