Float was my first larger-format work, as well as my first figurative painting as an adult. Before this, everything was heavily abstracted. The painting was done in a single night with one brush and about five tubes of acrylic paint. The concept originated in zen painting, with some more planned, dreamlike elements woven in. The final result was the beginning of what I call my "secret language."
