Struggling out from the depths of Youngstown, Ohio, James Thomas' art bleeds a gritty sarcasm for the modern world. James describes many of his paintings as private jokes, where the imagery is the punchline.

Using a variety of media to create his artworks, James blends some striking contrasts and vivid colors with deceptively simple forms. The end result is something dreamlike but still rooted in the unpolished world of cinderblocks and alleyways.
