Every month, Apollonova artists participate in a creative project. It's just an idea and a style, and you have to create something within the project parameters within the month.
We don't mind if you don't finish within the month - the purpose of the exercise is to get you working and give you a little nudge for inspiration.
October Project : Natural Selection
This month's theme and style is "Natural Selection." The only requirement is that artists use some kind of natural material in the finished product. This could be as simple as carving something out of wood or as elaborate as collecting flowers and grinding them into pigments for painting.
The "theme" part is left open to interpretation. Let your imagination run wild!
September Project : Akron / vintage
September's style is "vintage" - something that has an antique look, or perhaps brings to mind a certain historical period.
Our theme is "Akron." The work has to have something to do with this lovely town. It can be representative of the city itself, or reflect the way Akron makes you feel. Run with it!
August Project : atmosphere / triptych
August's style is a triptych - a three-part work, preferrably panels, based on the style of the folding religious iconic pieces of the medieval period.
The theme is "Atmosphere." Take it as you like it. Some have interpreted it as needing landscape elements, others want it to simply be an ambiance piece. Not so many rules there.
Here are the results:
UPCOMING PROJECTS:
Getting the creative juices flowing on command isn't always easy, so we've decided to post the themes for the next few months.
Work-A-Week - Artists are challenged to create one complete work a week, something small and saleable for a reasonable price. Xmas is looming, and people will want something in their budget, so we figure we should stay marketable, competitive, and creative!
Natural Extract - create something using only natural materials or pigments, such as mud painting, earth sculpture, or live animals. Well, maybe not the live animals.
The Commish - some people have ideas, but not the talent to express them. So, find yourself a patron and do what they want. Around the gift-giving holidays, this is a good time for portraits or some kind of nostalgic piece.
